The fire side - Last Shout - recent operation to rescue an African Grey parrot

A recent operation to rescue an African Grey parrot named Dodger went without a flap according to firefighters at the scene. The parrot which had been missing for days was spotted by its owners in a tree, too tired or afraid to move. The Cumbrian firefighters rescued him from his 30ft perch using a turntable ladder.

Firefighters were recently called out to an Ann Summers store after a lady customer became trapped in a pair of handcuffs. The unfortunate shopper drew a small crowd of onlookers while firefighters worked to free her. Embarrassed but not injured, the lady was eventually freed by the firefighters.

Avon firefighters recently rescued a woman who became stuck trying to break in to her own house. She had been out drinking, but when she got home could not find her keys. The lady in question then decided to remove a glass panel from her front door. She became trapped when climbing through the window panel.

A cat called Barney has been recognised for his bid for the title of man's best friend. Barney the cat woke his owners when their home caught fire after an electrical fault in their cooker sparked a blaze. His owner received an award for the most incredible story on Barney's behalf at an awards ceremony in London. A Surrey cat was named rescue cat of the year for his role in supporting recuperating patients in a Chertsey hospital. Mitzi was rehomed to the temporary unit at the hospital by the Cats Protection League.
