I have now had bobby 6 months and his previous owner had his wings clipped, How long do they take to grow back as i think it was a bad clip he had. I don't know what it should look like but to my untrained eye it doesnt look pretty.

Anymore info on this would be great.

Thanks
Nick

I read that you should clip them every 5 months. Tito's grew back to a decent length and it took longer than that. He wasn't 100% fully flighted though, but he could get around- he got about 3 feet off the ground, but could fly horizontally for a pretty long stretch. I took him to a pet story who (I think) did a hack job on him. This was maybe a month and a half ago. This one really long one grew back, and when I went to clip it (last night), I realized I could straighten the others up without possibly damaging what you shouldn't cut. So I'm sure it depends, but I would say a matter of months.

Each bird is different. They all molt at different times. With wing feathers take the longest to regrow because they only molt one or two at a time on each side. That way in the wild they are able to fly at all times. If he had a really bad clip were they clipped 8 or 9 feathers it is going to take longer for them all to be replaced. I clip Gandolf about every 3 to 4 months when he has one or two new feathers come in. He has a very mild clip with only the first four feathers clipped.
