Unexpectedly (sp) i have been offered a huuuuuuuge cage for Murphy...currently he is in a very small cage..something very similar to the picture below .... he's been with me 2 weeks now and appears settled etc.....so my question today is ...whats the best way to move him to his huuuuge new home, my plan was to park the new house next to him so he can see it and gradualy move toys in there etc....am i approaching this correctly? Brrrrrrrr...tis very cold in the Forest of Dean, due for more snow tonight Thanks in advance Murphy's Mum

don't take my advise for granted, others on here are much! more experienced than me...but it sounds like your idea is on target, from what i've read in the older posts and such...maybe a new 'colorful' toy on the new cage to catch his attention, and have both doors open to let him check it out for himself...i'll bet he will love his new larger cage soon!...

This is the procedure i have used with any of my birds, i usually let them play on the new cage etc then when you move them in i leave the old one in sight for a while. Not sure if this is necessary after the move but it didn't do any harm so i left it for a little reassurance! Good luck hope that helps some? Let us know how you get on!

I have never had a hard time moving my birds to a new cage. I may be the exception. I just moved the other toys and say "here you go!". Seems to work. I do think letting the bird see the new cage is great but .. under those conditions, i would think the baby would be THRILLED to get somewhere else..
Let us know how it goes ...

Snow permitting the cage will be arriving tonight ....judging by how he has taken to new toys i have bought him i don't think moving him straight away will be a good idea..he definately likes things in there place and does not like change....typical man eh ....will see how it goes over the next few days and let u all know. Once again thankyou for such quick reply's...have a good day. Murphy's Mum

Morning All....pc had a dickie flip for a few weeks, seems to be sorted now.
Ok so Murphy has moved into his huuuuge cage and loves it...i moved within 24 hours of getting the cage as he was being very nosey when we put it together....so all his old toys have moved with him and we bought new perches for him...he spends most of his time at the top and does not really venture to the bottom....overall considering we go him for nothing and got a £500 cage for £50 that was only 6 months old ..he's is doing really well and picking up sooo many new words....i have a few questions to ask...rather than start a new thread i will ask here...mods please feel free to move my questions if need be.
Q1 - Now summer is on its way...i spend my days gardening and i want to take Murphy out in the garden with me....i have kept his old cage purely for this purpose...this is probably a daft question but do i need to wait till its a certain temp before we venture outside?
Q2 - I think he likes me ALOT....i the evening i spend time stroking him which he loves but he is still in his cage....he is dropping his wings and looks like he is trying to bring food up..he is lifting my finger onto his head to stroke it ..at the same time looking like he is almost past himself with exciment (sp)...this is a sign of liking me?....problem is he can be very up and down with me...1 day very loving, the next angry with me and does not want me anywhere near him....help and advise please.
He is out of his cage for atleast 3 - 4 hours per day, eating well and travels around the house with me either on my head or shoulder and certainly appears to like it.
Would appreciate any advise you can give me. Thankyou.
Hope everyone is well.
Murphys Mum

Congratulations on moving Murphy. glad hes happy. As for temperature i dont take Bella out if its a bit nippy, she is used to warmth and shivers if shes cold. The regurgitating means he loves you for definate but they all have times when they want to be alone and not harrassed. Your doing well with him.

Its perfectly normal, Bella can be the same and yes it does hurt!!!!!!!! They behave like spoilt 2 year old children, everything is on their terms only, no compromise!!
