I need some sort of travel cage. I used to use a 'keet cage, but the friend to whom I lent it never returned it  Roll Eyes Oh, and I think I'd have to disassemble Mercury to get him through the door lol

Anyway, any recs? The cheapest thing at my local pet shop with bars close enough to each other was a $20 dog carrier  Undecided

I'm not sure it's OK for him, though. I rather like the Parrotopia(sp?) ones. Are they good?

Also, I noticed during my online wanderings, these strange clear acrylic ones that cost hundreds of dollars. Is there any advantage to them, really? I tend not to skimp on things for my birds, so if they're hugely better I'll go in that direction, but if they're just a gimick, I'll invest in some other sort.

Question is... what sort should that be?

I don't have a sure shot answer to that, but I've observed many people use cat carriers as a travel cage for their grey. Wait for the seniors on the forum to log in and they will advise you.

i use a plastic cat carrier here with metal grid door, with a teatowel in the bottom so the floor isnt slippy.
poppy goes in his box every day to and from his aviary which takes about 30secs each way . there is no perch in there for him, he just stands on the teatowel.

if i was to travel with him for hours id fit a perch for him as its more normal for them to perch, a sawed down broom handle would do the job.

the clear plastic box is the wingabago isnt it. they seem a bit gimmicky to me. the other thing avail is an adventure rucksack backpack thing which is good if you fancy going travelling a lot with birdy, but for a trip to the vets etc that kinda thing a cat carrier is perfect.

il just add (once again cos theres opportunity and its important) how usefull it is to get your birdy comfortable going in his travel box with no fuss. poppy had 2 accidents this last year, the second time he ripped a claw out completely in his cage (never grown back) and was bleeding badly.
the vet told me it was very possible being so used to getting transferred in and out his box and being snuggled in a towel may have saved his life, as stress on top of an injury in a parrot can be what actually kills them, but he had so much less added stress due to the box, being wrapped in a towel etc being an everyday occurance.hes now fine again and i could pick him out in a crowd of greys due to his little pink toe lol.

Yes this is really important and I think we've talked about this before. Potter is still very upset when you try to get him into a box of any description, I think I found out why now, his previouse owner forced him into one a couple of times head first. Anyway, I'm still working with him, but I can get him onto a cushion quite easily now and carry him round on it so my next step is cushion in the travel cage! Small steps!

i use a normal parrot travel carrier...at first cjs didn't like to go in it, but is improving as he loves car rides and is associating the carrier with that...
