For a few months, Toto has slowly plucked her leg feathers.  I left it, thinking that it might stop.  But it didn't.

Now she has no feathers on her legs and has begun on her chest.

I called her vet and he is putting her on some solution in her drinking water, for a few days.

The strange thing is that Toto seems pretty happy.  She talks too much, she gets lots of sunshine, her cage is huge, I feed her yummy things often, and I spray her with water.

I've noticed a number of people talk about their parrots pulling out tail feathers.  Anyone had leg issues?

It sure is a grave concern, let's hope that the medicines will take care of that.

Yes it is terrible.  SHE looks terrible.

I've kept her very busy during the day, always changing scenery and sounds and toys etc.  So she doesn't pluck during the day.  She seems to do it at night, in her cage, when it's bed time.

Anyone have the same problem?

maybe you're changing things around too often? she could be stressing over this?

if toto is molting also this could be causing irritation. jasper is still molting and he keeps picking at a feathers around his chest. i have noticed a couple of new ones coming in so i hope this is all it is a she was doing it a few months ago  Sad

Plucking, is every parent's worse nightmare! When Sophie started plucking, and kids called me at work, to tell me, I listened. The plucking was (venous), I told them to ignore her. (even though the blood was on the walls!) They were truly freaking out! When I got home, I took Sophie into the shower, which she hates! She was bloody... needed to get clean! I cleaned her, she never plucked again! She and I never talked about it! She just knew, what I would do about it!(she hates to shower!) She has never plucked again!
ignore the behavior! If it gets to the point of "serious plucking", let us know! Don't let your bird know you notice, or care! Let us know, but not your baby!    Nancy M
