Hello all,
My Grandma passed on a little trick that some of you may or may not know.
For all of us that have cages with seed guards around the edge, you know the slanted shields.
She got tired of taking them off all the time, and washing them down Sad.  So, she come up with the idea to wrap the sections in newspaper.  One layer wrapped over the top, and tapped behind.  Then, whenever they become soiled, you just tear the page off, and replace with a new one.  Saves a lot of cleaning and scrubbing! Wink

I don't bother with the seed guards! I take them off completely so now I don't even have to clean them!!! Voila!! Grin And that way also, no more bumping into those corners that leave you bruised and/or bleeding  Cheesy

i kept mine on Peggy's cage as she likes to walk round it nosing over the sides and its easier to clean the poop of that, instead of the floor  Huh

Poop off then wipe with a mop on linoleum is much easier than to clean those guards IMO....I guess depends on your floor.... Smiley

those seed catchers are lethal.
when poppy lived in my lounge i blacked mmy eye on the corner when i took a nosedive.
no end of times i bashed my shins too. i filed his in the bin.
i have laminate floring in my birdroom and my lounge, so just use a broom to get up seeds then mop, but they dont actually do much on the floor nowadays.

I too hate my seed guards - they really aren't snug enough to the cage, so I still get spillage (along with poop and dander on the guards).  My birds are on off-white carpet to boot.  It's the only carpet we haven't replaced in the house and will hopefully do so with wood floors soon.  I've hit my legs on them so many times - I have the bruises and scratches too.  One time I bought a small roll of "seed guard" which you evidently wrap around the bottom of the cage.  I don't know what possessed me to buy it - but at least I was intelligent enough not to try it - it would have been shredded minutes after application!  Cheesy
