Just to clarify, I am not against a big cage, it's only during the bonding phase that I feel a compact cage will be better suited.

Sounds like I should just get a smaller cage for the beginning.

I agree with Feika! I went and measured Sophie's old cage 24by 48 flat top including ladder down both sides at top. Not including legs of stand. I bought her six months ago, corner cage, flat top. New cage is 55 width by 45 debth, not including legs. Sophie has only graduated to "standing on door". Old cage is back next to new cage. She lives in old cage after many months of battle, occassionally. After new cage disaster, she opted to live with Amazon and Sunconure. So when I get up in the morning, a grey, Amazon and sunconure are all snuggling together! LOL Kiki the Amazon, occassionally goes into new cage to chew on the "natural wood" perches. Come March 1st, if my "rosebreasted Cockatoo" is not adopted.... I am going to put in an offer for her. Will be almost a year at the birdstore. Asking price 2500. What do you all think I should offer? Sean knows how much I love her, and we have bonded, but I do want younger parents to adopt her. Of course I will be sad if she is gone.... but I refuse to let this baby with the BEST personality, live in a birdstore past March 1st. Nancy

For $1100/1200 you can have a baby. I checked prices on BirdBreeders.com. They are also selling single adults for $1000 and pairs for $2500. I would offer $1200. You should be able to get her at 1 year of age for half price......My argument would be, why pay the same price for a 1 year old parrot as you would for a baby? Of course, being kinda partial to that particular parrot would explain it

Thanks Karine and Sean! I think I asked the same question, on another site. Ignore it! Rosey is on my mind. Another bird, that doesnt play with toys! Lucky me! LOL I know it sounds crazy, to put my affection on the side, and wish her a "forever" home with parrents that can enjoy her every "first step!" This is what she deserves. Of course, don't think I WON"T take pictures of her like crazy....I just think, to be HONORED of such a fantastic bird, should be left to new parents that can offer her the stability, of attention 100%. Rosey will walk into a household with Sophie ruling 100%. ( Sophie is fair!) I am left with the "omen", the new cage is available. Maybe it was meant for Rosey. I keep reminding myself, that I took Sunny in. A bird that noone wanted.... he was out of forever homes... and fit in quite nicely, with us. Well over eleven years ago.Sophie and Kiki were both clueless. I can do this (good time to tell me, age has nothing to do with it) lol nancy

@charlieboy, Karine, and Feika -- I had an idea, so I thought I would ask you guys. We have a dog cage that we have never used for our chihuahua. If I outfitted it with a perch or two, I am wondering if it would be used as a temporary first cage to build confidence and security. The size is about 20"x18"x20". That may be TOO small, yes?
In the big cage, I now have all the perches located maximum 10 inches from the bottom grate, and will line the grate with a nice fluffy soft towel in the beginning.
Thanks again for any suggestions! Laura

It is too small for a day cage. However, you might use it as a night cage....

Thanks, Nancy Any word on Rosie? Did you decide not to go through with it? These fids can be a lot of work (from what I hear), so I could definitely understand. I know you were tempted, though.

Paul, will not come down on his price. Wants 2000 minimum. Cannot afford this price. I know Rosie would be happy here. Kids are happy, NOT to get another bird. There is alot of responsibility on all of us, to maintain, a great enviroment, for all our birds. I understand, the responsibility, we all have. So many people, have birds.Kids agree to "play with them, feed and take care of them", and don't. Ryan and Sean do. They love them, play with them, and feed them. They have involved them, in all aspects of life. They are more into the birds, than dogs. Dogs are cared for, by me. Kiki is being "naughty" lately! Screaming, when she doesn't get her way! Sean, bribes her, with a pretzel. I disagree.I refuse to give into her Tyranny. We are disagreeing, in dealing with her tantrums. Kiki belongs to Sean. When he is done with college.... she goes off to live with him.He knows that, and desires Kiki to be part of his future. I know, Kiki screams around 3pm, due to her "Amazon ways".She gets past it without bribery. I don't know how to tell him, "we are NOT helping her", when she just needs to scream for five minutes. Nancy

Sorry to hear about the price, Nancy. I agree -- it would seem giving Kiki a pretzel when she screams would make her want to scream more. He'll have to live with the consequences later. All of your birds and dogs sound like they have a lot of love.
