First off: I noticed that my Shih Tzu has fleas. Not many, and she doesn't ever come in direct contact with or anywhere near Avery, but could he get them too?

Second: I've freaked myself out about mites as well. He doesn't seem to be showing signs of any, but do any of you know the common symptoms?

Third: I want to take him to the vet so I can be reassured that everything is okay. If I were to take him to the vet in his travel cage, would he still trust me after putting him in the hands of a person whom he has not previously met?

Fleas, no; mites, maybe, but unless he is exposed to wild birds or is outside a whole lot, they are unlikely.  Talk to him gently when you take him to the vets and carry some of his favorite treats and a toy or two.  He will most likely see you as his rescuer when you pick him up from the vet.

elisablueeee..... I agree that probably everything is okay! Eventually, you probably, one way or another, will have to visit the vet!(even just for healthy child visit, which is important!) Remember, (this is hard).... he may be stressed out, but just apart of life! He won't get mad at you. Just the opposite! You will be soothing him that everything is okay! You are his mommy! You will make everything alright. It is part of the mommy-child relationship. He will bond even more!   Nancy M
