Is only 7 in the morning, thought she was asleep on her little cage at the end of the bed, but she is yawning, yawning, yawning, and acts like she is throwing up. Her ever loving and faithful companion, who until she showed up, refused even with the con of a cookie in 13 years to get on the bed, blind bulldog Penny sawing logs just inches away from her. Finally a tiny, hello, not the first thing in the morning, HELLOOOO! What unlikely companions, the independent, unhuggable (her choice) Penny, and Christa, who if she walks out of the room, Christa screaches, if I walk out of the room, she cares less, and I hear her yaking away at the, yes she even snores when she is awake Penny. Someone told me once if a bird yawns, means she is sick, and i am so worried, old penny would be heartbroken (me tooo) if something were to happen to her one year old friend Christa. Any opinions? How is her body posture? An ill bird perches as low down as they can quite often fluffed up a bit. If shes like that she needs a vet asap, yawning isnt a sign of illness or at least i hope not cos all my 3 yawn a lot! They all have their off days when they just want peace and quiet particularly if theyre having a moult.

Rocco also yawns.
Like Billysprout said other than the yawning does she appear different than normal.
Any doubts see the VET. Always safe than sorry as they are REALLY sick by the time they show it......
GOOD LUCK!!!!

yes, billy, she was all fluffed up, and stuck her head in her back, and i am thinking, how do they do that? Think i will call the vet, just to see what she says, the vet told me last month, christa was such a delightful bird, so this is definately not her talkative self.

They do fluff up when theyre asleep and tuck their heads in their backs, she doesnt sound ill to me really but only you know your bird and its better to be safe than sorry.

I agree, taking your baby to the vet is probably the answer. Does she seem short of breath? Sometimes frequent yawning, is a sign for the need of more oxygen.( with humans!) I know nothing about bird needs. I would play it safe also, and see the vet. Nancy M

is she preening and grooming every now and then? or does she sit on one leg often? these are the signs of normal healthy birds, also like Debbie said, they tuck their heads back while asleep, take a close look at her poop, if it's runny with too much water content (unless you are serving her fruits regularly) then it's sign of a sick bird.

september if she's constantly doing the yawning its not a good sign, check her poops as well for looseness, smell (bad egg smell) or undigested seeds could also be a sign of vitamin deficiency. i do hope she'll be ok xx

after preening is fine as she could be dislodging a seed which may have got stuck in her throat

Sounds like she isn't getting enough sleep try and put her to bed earlier. Like human children they need extra hours of sleep and they should have a set bed time.
