Nancy, naive as I am, I suspect that if they *really* don't like water then they *really* don't want to shower.

My boy, Jeremy, says, "I'm naughty," even though he's never heard that actual phrase. He has, however, heard, "Your naughty," and "Jeremy's naughty", but the phrase, 'I'm naughty' is entirely of his own making. Thus I think we may deduce that they have a good grasp of the language and the world that surrounds them. Hence if they say they don't want a shower then I think we can safely deduce that they, er, don't want a shower . . . . . or something.
