Kelvin I would suggest you stick to the forum and also look out for birds that need rehoming. A lot of the times they are re-homed for no fault of theirs as the owners just couldn't have them anymore. It will serve two purposes: you'll get a fully grown sociable bird in a cost effective way (you have to thoroughly investigate that before bringing it home), and secondly the bird will have a permanent home with you. It's just a suggestion.

Thanks for the advice Feika.
Not sure about a re-homed bird. Reason I think this is because all I know about, other than 8 days ownership, is all based on book knowledge and what I have read. Because of this I'm not sure I would be the best person, experience wise, to deal with a rehomed bird if there were any issues. Could be wrong on this but think my chances of no/few problems would be better with a young bird.
Still waiting for the final vets results, they don't seem to be in any hurry! The phone calls I have had would indicate some kind of flu. Will update when I have the final diagnosis in front of me.

Thanks Nancy and thanks to all for your sympathies and nice comments.
Well, finally have the history of what happened so here goes, as it is written. (Incidentally Tequila was not a she but a he, so after that shock here is the update)
Bacterial infection, no oocysts, worm eggs or parasites seen from the single sample. Conclusion - demise due to necrotising multifocal pnemonia developing over past month? source of infection..psittacosis (a zoonosis was not isolated from any tissues from post motrem. thus no a hazard to humans. Aspergillus inf is contagious/infectious to other birds sharing the same airspace. bacterial aerobic cultures revealed also 2ndry enterobacter cloacae gut infection. no anareobes were seen or cultured from post mortem material.
So from that I gather parrot flu and maybe a few secondary infections.
Poor little thing didn't stand a chance.

I am so sorry for your loss. It sounds as if she could have been sick when you brought her home.

Aspergillis is very harmful to humans as well. Your right, your bird did not stand a chance....God bless their soul! Please let your doctor know, you have been exposed to Aspergillis, see what they want to do!(not sure if it can cross over to humans!) Take some time to mourn, then get back in the saddle! There is another baby waiting just for you! Nancy M

Kelvin, this is the first time I have read this thread, so sad, unfortunately I have walked in your shoes and I know the feeling, I think most if not all of us know the feeling. That said I think you have received a lot of good advice, definitely take all the time you need to mourn, steer well clear of this store/breeder as 1. this could be a problem there and I would not want to chance getting another sick bird. 2. It would be unfair to inadvertently infect another flock of birds. I am no rookie even though it has been a long time since I have had a feathered friend, and things have changed a lot since then. This is a great forum with a lot of very good, helpful people. Hang around and read, learn, and ask all the questions you have. Remember the only bad question is the one left unasked. Please don't rule out re-homing a bird, that is what I'll be doing on Friday , the people here are very helpful and supportive and I am quite sure everyone will be willing to guide and help you as things arise, and they will arise be it a new baby or a re-homed bird. Best of luck to you.
