Hi All, This year we're off to South Devon for a couple of weeks and staying at a seaside hotel that has an excellent view of the beach from the balcony rooms. As of now, we plan to take my CAG, Jeremy, along with us in his travel cage. We're also taking a couple of dogs. My question is this: what do people think is best for a pet parrot: staying home with a minder, or travelling with the family and staying in a hotel where he will be alone in our room for a few hours each day while we take the dogs walking? I can leave the TV on for him at such times and place his cage so that he can see the beach and surrounding area. Jeremy isn't harness trained; he isn't clipped either. He would be able to come out of his cage for an hour or so each day (maybe two sessions). Last year we stayed at the same beach but hired a cottage. Jeremy certainly didn't mind the travelling - in fact he seemed to enjoy the five-hour car journey each way - but we only stayed a few days. This year it will be a full fortnight. I keep wondering what's best for him and wondered what you lot think. Cheers, Julie

We plan to take Darwin away on holiday when we go... our doggies stay with Stuarts parents... but we think Darwin might be pushing our luck a bit... We have bought a holiday cage for him which folds flat and is enormous when put up. We have it up in our front room and Darwin spends time in it to get used to it. hugs Janie xxx

I agree, take him with you. He will enjoy being with the family and if it is no trouble for him to travel with you he will also likely enjoy the break as much as you will.

Duchess, I think you have to look on your last experience, he clearly seemed to enjoy it, go for it, then you havent got the worry of "worrying about him" he is with you and happy and safe and sound.

I am mean, to stay mean I hit my fingers with a hammer everyday. Come over to the evil side, we have biscuits.

Yes, I think you're all right. It seems my feelings are too - Jeremy should go to Hope Cove with us. Cheers, Julie (Duchess) Ps. Thank you all for your input, it's much appreciated.

Yes, I think that's a very good idea, Jules. Perhaps a small, plastic cat carrier? Cheers, Julie

yes that's all jasper has, a plastic cat carrier i put a towel in the bottom and it has lots of slats all the way around so plenty of ventilation. a couple of months ago i asked my neighbour to fix a perch in it too so jasper would be more comfy. he put in one from jaspers cage which already has the screw on bolt at one end and he fixed the other end with a badge from a walking stick (dont worry,no sharp edges) so its personalised too, he loves it more now and he actually sits on the perch happy holidays for all xx

That's what I'm thinking of doing; the olive looks so much more discreet. Cheers, Julie
