Darwin enjoys Palm Nuts which we keep in the freezer, taking one out the night before to defrost.  My question is....  How many Palm Nuts should I feed per week?

Darwin is given pellets to eat all day.  Then fresh fruit and veg in a large bowl at the bottom of his cage around lunch time.  I put the palm nut in with the lunch time bowl.  I sometimes add some seeds as well just for a change.

I suppose he has around 3 palm nuts a week...  just wondering who many is to many for a healthy CAG...

mmm some recommend three a day  Undecided BUT they are too expensive to be given in that amount. you dont seem to get many in a bag.

imo should be given a as treat so i think three a week sounds about right  Smiley

That's okay then, I know they have them in the wild and such, but as they are basically a treat for him I didn't want to give him to many...

They can have 1 a day, even 2 a day on ocassions.  They are quite fatty so any more than that would be too much.  I usually give them 2/3 times a week too though   Smiley

Hi, I have been trying to find palm nuts. Where are you guys finding them.

Since the birds live so long what kind of palm tree would you plant. I'm considering buying partly for landscape and for fruit too.

Thanks

I bought my palm nuts from http://www.24parrot.com/.  I bought a pack of 250g which is plenty for a single Grey, you store them in the freezer until needed.  Get one or two out the night before to defrost.
